Abstract:

This phase of the project was performed in response to a letter from Acting Chief, Navigation and Landing Division, ARD-300, dated January 17, 1980, under Project 81, tactical air navigational aid TACANdistance measuring equipment DME Systems Support 042-306 TACANDME MaintenanceSustaining Engineering. The project was performed to determine the cause of loss of DME service at the OHare International Airport, Chicago, Illinois, and the Stapleton International Airport very high frequency omnidirectional radio range tactical air navigational system VORTAC, Denver, Colorado. This report covers the findings of the traffic counts of the OHare DME and Stapleton VORTAC. The results show that these systems were being interrogated at rates in excess of the systems capacities.
