Abstract:

The technique of pulsed laser photolysis-long path laser absorption is employed to study the kinetics of the reaction CH3O2 NO2 N2 yields at K sub 1 CH3O2NO2 N2 over the temperature range 253-353 K. At all temperatures, k sub 1 is found to monotonically increase with increasing N2 pressure over the range 76-722 torr, indicating that reaction occurs predominantly by addition. The dependence of k sub 1 on N2 pressure shows that the reaction is in the fall-off region between second and third order kinetics. These results are compared with previous results and their atmospheric implications are discussed. Author
