Abstract:
Problems associated with the production and operational support of DoD weapon system software are examined. Emphasis is placed on identifying techniques that are currently available for improving the maintainability of this software. A discussion of the software life cycle, structured programming methodologies, use of high order languages, and documentation requirements for software is included with a review of applicable DoD policies. Among the conclusions is that there exists a critical need to recognize maintainability as a primary design objective for DoD weapon system software. Author
