A modified version of NRLs DIODE2D computer simulation code is used to model the electron and proton flow in a hollow cathode diode. Results correspond closely to those observed in experiments performed at NRL and give direct insight into the diode physics. The strong dependence of diode performance on two-dimensional distortions of the A-K gap electric field as well as upon the presence of a strong axial magnetic field is clearly illustrated. Author
