Abstract:

The laser radar simulator optical design is described. The profile of the mirror surfaces is described in detail. Two test arrangements for analyzing the optical system were set up. These were termed the parent and system tests. These tests and the resulting test results are discussed in the text. The parent test was simply a test of the optical system before the aspheric sections of the secondary and tertiary mirrors were cored out. The system test was a test of the finished optical components in their mounts. The results of these two tests indicated that no appreciable change occurred in the optics due to the coring and both the parent and system tests show that the optical system is performing within the required tolerances. Finally, a detailed step-by-step alignment procedure for the optics is given.
