Abstract:

This study investigates techniques for threat assessment and threat prioritization. It encompasses design and evaluation of algorithms for extrapolation of missile trajectories based on information and estimates about the current missile state. The objective of the threat assessment function is prediction of the defender-threat engagement based on estimates of the threat position, velocity and acceleration. The objective of the threat prioritization function is to rank threats in order that they may be effectively countered. In this effort several methods of deterministic trajectory assessment were investigated. Extrapolation of the threat trajectory to the point and time of closest approach is performed in each of these methods. Probability of survival estimates are derived based on this information, and a baseline threat prioritization technique is developed.
