Abstract:

This paper reviews the anthropometric and strength criteria used by the CMVSS to specify vehicle design limits. The review was concerned with two main objectives To review the format and content of the CMVSS to ascertain whether the criteria contained therein are the most pertinent to vehicle safety characteristics and whether such criteria are presented in the most effective way possible Two review available US and Canadian anthropometric literature to determine the extent to which existing data can be applied to standards for the design of vehicles for Canadian drivers and the costbenefit of undertaking a comprehensive survey to provide more reliable data.
