Abstract:

A new conceptual and instrumental approach to time-resolved chemical measurements is presented. Based on the concepts of information and linear response theory, the new approach is applicable to a number of different areas, including nuclear magnetic resonance spectrometry, high-speed kinetic measurements, gas chromatographic analysis, and time-resolved luminescence spectrometry. In the particular examples given, the new approach is applied to the determination of luminescence lifetime. Accuracy and simplicity of the method are emphasized and its application to chemical analysis discussed.
