Abstract:

This document provides guidelines to the military commander on expected human performance degradation of continous ground combat. Degradation projections are based on extrapolations from scientific literature and realistic scenarios of continuous operations. The advantages and application of task restructuring, task reallocation, and work rest management concepts in the continuous operations context are presented along with considerations for training, system design, and performance support. Comprehensive tables show anticipated performance degradation for specific duty positions in the mechanized infantry, artillery, armor, and FIST categories. Methods are discussed for minimizing the anticipated degradation.
