The document reviews the U.S. Navys achievements in the field of Electronics beginning with its early work in Radio Communication in 1899. Because of its vital need for communication with and between its ships at sea, the Navy held a dominant position in the development of this field during the early years, supported by funds readily obtained from Congress when other interests were quite limited financially. The document also includes a history of the Origin of the Naval Research Laboratory, its organizational development and its establishment as a major part of the Office of Naval Research. The largest part of the document is devoted to a review of the many outstanding achievements of NRL in Electronics since its establishment in 1923.
