Abstract:

The linear stability of those Sedov blast wave similarity solutions for which the flow is homologous behind the shock, of which the best-know example is the Primakoff point blast model, along with that of their two-dimensional counterparts, is proved analytically. This conclusion in the three-dimensional case applies to all perturbations, and in the two-dimensional case to flutelike kz 0 modes. Implications for supernova remnant evolution are discussed.
