The water budget for a 3.6-ha test area was calculated during and two days after a 2.7-cm equivalent to 991,000 l application of wastewater. By computing the water remaining in the soil from soil sample water content data, calculating the amount lost to evapotranspiration and measuring the underdrain flow rate, it was possible to calculate the water budget to within 95 of the actual amount applied. The accuracy in computing the soil water content is critical. In this case, a 1 variation of error in the volumetric water content is equivalent to nearly one third of the total water applied. Author
