Abstract:

The magnetic induction is calculated for two configurations consisting of an infinitesimally thin prolate spheroidal current band carrying a stationary current surrounding a ferromagnetic prolate spheroidal shell, and an infinitesimally thin band internal to a ferromagnetic prolate spheroidal shell. The ferromagnetic body is assumed to be linear and homogeneous. The reduction of the solutions to that of a prolate spheroidal current band in free space is shown when the permeability of the ferromagnetic prolate spheroidal shell is allowed to approach that of free space.
