Abstract:

This paper is a summary introduction to some of the graph theoretical work being done in connection with the World EventInteraction Survey. The paper discusses some of the rationale for adopting a graph theoretical approach to international relations. Also included are some of the matrix algebra algorithms that have been developed for operationalizing the notion of structural balance and an illustration of how the technique might be used to analyze the structure of international relations.
