Abstract:

Quantitative models for decision-making are useful only if they are available to those who must make the decisions. QUEUE1, an interactive computer program which incorporates six basic queueing theory models, was developed. QUEUE1 and instructions were designed for use by mid-level managers who do not have an extensive knowledge of computer operations or modeling theory. QUEUE1 was tested on five individuals. Test results lead to the conclusion that interactive programming techniques can present quantitative models to non-technical managers in a useable format.
