Abstract:

Appendices A and B present the codebooks used for the assessment of Soviet and U.S. crisis outcomes CACI, 1979b. The methodological strategy underlying the codebooks is presented in Chapter 3 of the Technical Report. The rationales for the superpower crisis goals whose outcomes are assessed using this coding document are explicated in Chapters 4 and 5 of CACI 1979b. The codebooks have been designed for use, and therefore do not read as standard narrative exposition of the variety presented in the main body of the report CACI, 1979b. Appendix C discusses the reliability and validity of the data produced using these codebooks.
