Abstract:

In quiet experimental tanks, thermal noise is the dominant noise source above 50 kHz. Evidence indicates that in the frequency range above 50 kHz cetacean auditory thresholds are limited by thermal noise. Data were compared for Tursiops, Phocoena, Inia, and Delphinaptera.
