Abstract:

This reprot presents the results of a study of the phenomena of coloration of solid materials by application of electric potentials. Four specific aspects of this subject have been emphasized. First, new electrochromic materials were surveyed. Second, rhenium oxides were studied in detail to determine the origin of their thermochromic effect. Third, the rate-controlling mechanisms in liquid electrolyte cells were investigated. And fourth, various solid-state electrolyte materials were studied and one - termed PSSE - gave improved performance over those previously discussed in the literature. Author
