Abstract:
Studies are being made to investigate the early and late pathological effects of plutonium oxide deposited in the rodent lung and their dependence on particle size and dose. The primary design consideration was the safety of personnel involved in the experiments and consequently all operations associated with animal exposures are carried out in glove boxes under carefully controlled conditions. This has placed restraints upon the manner in which these operations are performed. Thus, equipment has been designed to operate under these conditions and to minimise the possibility of an accidental exposure to plutonium oxide.
