Abstract:
The design criterion for a standard reference hydrophone for accurate phase measurements independent of temperature and hydrostatic pressure is examined. Geometrical, acoustical, and electrical considerations that determine the electroacoustic phase response of a hydrophone are analyzed to optimize phase stability within specific frequency ranges. Limitations due to pyroelectric effect and low-frequency piezoelectric response are analyzed and specific examples given. Author
