The physical properties of a series of JP-9 fuels, whose compositions covered the entire range allowed by the fuel specification, were determined. Included in the study are density, viscosity, surface tension, vapor pressure, specific heat, thermal conductivity, dielectric constant, airnitrogenwater solubility, heat of combustion and freeze point. A proposed gas chromatographic method for the analysis of JP-9 fuel has been validated and results are reported. A survey of methods for hydrocarbon type analysis in fuels was conducted. Specific NMR approaches to this kind of analysis were applied to jet fuels and are presented. Analytical data are reported to determine the effect on combustion of modifying various fuels. A number of special studies which were conducted to aid in the solution of Air Force operational problems were conducted and are reported.
