The design and operation of a microprocessor based data acquisition system is described. The system is capable of digitising and storing a frame of pictorial information from an AGA Thermovision and provides facilities for the analysis of the stored information. Transfer of the stored information to the IBM 370168 can be achieved at high speed and sophisticated processing applied to the stored data. The use of a microprocessor as the controlling unit has allowed the implementation of some analysis and processing facilities at the experimental site.
