Abstract:
All the work was in the area of gasdynamics, and our main area of research has been cases of flows containing shockwaves. For the most part we have taken an approach which straddled the borderline of analytical and numerical methods. This is best exemplified by the work discussed in which classical boundary layer methods are used to develop variable mesh numerical schemes and in which the theory of characteristics, Riemann invariants, and shock expansion theory are all used to obtain a robust method of numerical integration which is orders of magnitude faster than any other known scheme.
