This paper presents an analysis of the economic effects that federal regulatory controls, especially environmental regulations and safety-and-health directives, have had on the US defeense industrial base. Special reference is made to the ferrous foundry industry, since it has been alleged that the loss of production capacity in this industry has been heavily impacted by pollution control and safety-and-health requirements imposed by federal regulatory agencies.
