Abstract:

Muzzle-blast loadings on spin-stablized projectiles are analyzed and used to compute resultant trajectory deviations. Both conical and nonconical boattail rounds are treated. Approximations are made that permit the expression for the force on the projectile to be integrated the resulting equation is used to develop a universal momentum transfer function that can be directly related to projectile jump. Although nonconical boattail configurations are more sensitive to muzzle blast than concial designs, the computed trajectory deviation in either case is small compared to the total measured dispersion of typical system.
