The phytotoxicity of hydrogen chloride HC1 gas and aluminum oxide Al2O3 particulates was studied in special plant exposure chambers. These pollutants were generated separately by diluting bottled gas or commercial alumina dust. In addition, generation was affected by open-burning of small pieces of solid rocket fuel. The characteristics of these burn products were investigated. Rocket fuel gases produced phytotoxic responses similar to that seen on plants exposed to commercial HCl gas.
