A mutagenicity evaluation of PNNA dye is given based on results obtained from the Ames salmonellamicrosome plate test, the in vitro transformation of BALB3T3 cells assay, the mouse lymphoma forward mutation assay, the unscheuled DNA synthesis assay and the mouse dominant lethal assay. Although the dye is not believed a serious genetic risk to mammals at low concentrations, the potential risk as a carcinogen and mutagen cannot be disregarded.
