The Boltzmann equation for electrons is solved for background gases of one or two excited levels under conditions typical of electric discharge lasers. Reaction rates are assumed constant above a threshold energy, and the electron heating rate is assumed independent of energy. Elastic and superelastic collisions were not considered. Numerical solutions from a program developed in conjunction with Seward, Hastings, and Ercoline are in excellent agreement with the analytic solutions. Author
