Abstract:

The purpose of the test program was twofold namely, 1 to obtain test data on fountain type flow fields that exist below hovering lift-jet type VTOL airplanes, and 2 to obtain test data on the hot-gas reingestion into the engine inlets for this type of aircraft. Measurements of dynamic pressure, flow angularity, and temperature distribution were measured in 1 the fountains produced by one, two, three, and four vertical jets, and 2 the reingestion flow field produced by a three vertical jet configuration.
