Abstract:
The objective of this study was to demonstrate the application of the adsorption-oxidation AO process to the treatment of industrial wastes. The AO process is a novel, proprietary process currently being developed by the Re-entry and Environmental Systems Division RESD of the General Electric Company. It is designed to remove dissolved organics from wastewater. The process concept is based on removing the organics by adsorption on a suitable adsorbent and regenerating the adsorbent in-situ simultaneously by using a chemical oxidant. The oxidation scheme may include the use of catalysts, UV radiation, or ultrasonic energy to enhance the oxidation reaction.
