A 3 aluminum - 5 chromium - low carbon - titanium alloy was studied to determine effects of hot and cold rolling and annealing on microstructure, on directionality, and on recrystallization and grain growth. Results of this work indicate that this alloy has unusual recrystallization characteristics which prevent reduction of grain size by the usual methods of deformation and heat treatment. The desired improvement in ductility did not materialize from the treatments considered. Heating this alloy in air to the temperatures necessary for true hot working produces serious contamination and affects the properties. Author
