The following report provides a brief outline and description of the steps taken in formulating a simple mathematical model for the analysis of heat transfer in a pure substance undergoing a change in phase solid to liquid or vice-versa. The problem is approached from the differential point of view and eventually the governing equations are solved by a finite difference technique. The results show fairly conclusively that the present method of analysis is capable of predicting the behavior of such a system to a reasonably high degree of accuracy. Author
