A transitional spot, being artifically evoked in a laminar boundary layer, is shown to be related to the large scale motion in a turbulent boundary layer. The evoked spot has a universal structure which remains coherent in a turbulent boundary layer over extremely large distances. The interaction between adjacent spots in tandem has been studied and it appears that some important feature of the turbulent boundary layer may be simulated this way. A possible regeneration mechanism of the transitional spot was identified, reinforcing the notion that a transitional spot is an orderly structure which may be considered as the basic module in the turbulent boundary layer.
