The Universal Performance Assessment and Control System UPACS is a general purpose computer controlled data acquisition and analysis system. The UPACS is capable of providing the following major functions a Control of test instrumentation by a master computer or ancillary computers under the control of the master computer b Data Acquisition c General computation and analyses d Storage of data on mangetic tape and e Graphical output of data. The UPACS was originally designed to perform System Integration Tests on the Digital European Backbone DEB configurations at the Digital Network Systems Facility DSNF. The success of UPACS in its original task has lead to the concept of using UPACS as an automatic testing tool for any equipments required by the DSNF or Prototype Test Facility PTF. The major components of the UPACS are as follows a One master computer with disk and tape storage, and a hard copy printer b Three satellite computers c Four inputoutput consoles one for each computer d Four General Purpose Interface Bus GPIB facilities one for each computer and e Graphics Terminal. This unit will permit the printing of graphical output when it is connected with a hard copy printer. In addition, the UPACS has been reconfigured to allow the use of this terminal as another inputoutput console for the master computer. Author
