Abstract:

This study is composed of four essays that address contemporary contradictions that reduce or have constrained the effectiveness of the US Army. The first essay addresses the contradiction between existing strategic theory and the role of the military professional in strategy making in the constitutional democracy. The second essay addresses the contradictions posed by the contemporary concept of the Military Industrial Complex MIC and the roles and functions of military professionals within their respective political systems. The third essay addresses the contradictions between the society and the missions of the US Army. The final essay addresses contradictions internal to the Army posed by contemporary policy and the objective needs of our Armed Forces. The author offers explanations to eliminate the contradictions and possible solutions to solve problems created by the contradictions. Author
