The NAVSEA Standard Technical Manual Identification Numbering System TMINS has been promulgated to initiate the implementation of a single significant numbering system for technical manuals procured by the Navy Sea Systems Command. The use of the single numbering system will eliminate the confusion in the Fleet that now results from the different numbering systems in use by the former Naval Ships and Naval Ordnance Commands. In addition, the single numbering system will aid the standardization of cataloging within the Systems Command and will simplify the interfaces between TM data collection and TM information systems. This guide has two purposes 1 to explain the concepts of the TMIN System and the composition of the TMINS number, and 2 to provide the necessary data for proper application of TMINS numbers. The guide is divided into four sections. Section I provides the explanation of the system and the composition of the number. Section II presents the TMINS application data in the form of alphanumeric codes and code groups. Section III summarizes, by means of a definitive form, the system, equipment and project-related information necessary for proper assignment of a TMINS number. Section IV is an alphabetical index of subjects and commodities within the purview of the TMIN System.
