Abstract:

It has been shown that unless there is only a single on-axis target, the angle estimator monopulse ratio at the output of a monopulse radar is biased. No matter how large the signal-to-noise ratio, the variance of the estimate is unbounded. A measure of the spread of the probability density function has been introduced and a procedure developed to calculate the spread from the exact closed form expression for the probability density function of the monopulse ratio. The bias is also available by numerically calculating the mean of the probability density function. Author
