Abstract:

The purpose of this thesis project was to develop and to document the rationale associated with the development of a Division Logistics Module element...specifically the G-4 Packet. The Middle East War of 1973 forced recognition of the fact that the lethality and sophistication of the modern battlefield would necessitate significant changes in tactics, weapon employment and support concepts. A new series of wargames was developed by the Combined Arms Center to provide a more realistic tactical environment for commanders to use in exercising their skills, but initial analysis their results indicated that they were, in many instances, making decisions based on completely misleading logistical assumptions. Subsequently there has been a major effort to upgrade the scope and involvement of logistical elements to insure that our future battlefield commanders make their decisions in a real world support context. This thesis represents one of the packets developed as a part of the Division Logistics Module or DIVLOG to accomplish this end.
