Abstract:
The overall objective of this program was to develop practical computer-aided design and manufacturing CADCAM techniques for extrusion of aluminum alloys, steels and titanium alloys. Phase II results can be summarized as follows The computer-aided manufacturing and NC techniques developed in Phase I were extended to make SHAPE computer system applicable to extrusion of structural shapes, such as Ls and Ts. ALEXTR computer system for nonlubricated extrusion of aluminum alloys was developed. An economical-technical evaluation of the usefulness of CADCAM system in extrusion was performed. This study showed that utilization of CADCAM systems developed in this program can reduce manufacturing costs, improve delivery schedules, and increase the productivity of extrusion operations
