Ammunition deterioration during storage is of considerable economic consequences, and for long-range planning purposes it is important to have reliable data for various types of ammunition and for various storage sites. With this background long-term storage trials have been going on for 9 years with 6 types of ammunition at 3 aboveground and 3 underground storage sites. During this time visual inspection, laboratory analyses and tests, and functioning trials have been carried out. Several differences in the deterioration rate have been revealed both between ammunition types and between storage sites. It is proposed that the original time frame for the trials 10 years should be extended.
