Constant speed drive failures associated with the MIL-L-23699 oil degradation required a feasibility study to determine techniquesprocedures satisfactory for the field evaluation of oil samples. Results of the study showed that a test procedure based on total acid number was capable of discriminating between MIL-L-23699 oils with total acid numbers above and below 2.0 mg KOHgram. A prototype test kit go-no go type is being assembled for on-site field demonstrations.
