Abstract:

A potential replacement antenna for use with the RMSDCS system on the M-60 tank was modeled using a digital electro-magnetic antenna analysis program. The M-60 tank was also modeled using a digital Geometric Theory of Diffraction GTD program to investigate probable antenna mounting positions. A lambda4 monopole antenna was used to validate the GTD tank model for three separate possible antenna locations on the tank. The interface capabilities of the two programs were then investigated, resulting in the detection of GTD program limitations. The number of flat surfaces available in the program proved to be insufficient for the complex tank structure. Also, the computation time required increased exponentially with the number of inputs to the program.
