The boundary-layer calculation method which forms the subject of this verification study, involves a radically different numerical scheme and geometry-handling scheme than has been employed in earlier methods. This turbulence model incorporates the empirically modified turbulent kinetic-energy equation together with an assumed relationship between the turbulent intensity and the Reynolds shear stress. The form of this relationship, and the forms of two other empirical functions of position through the boundary layer the dissipation length and the diffusion function, have to satisfy certain rather broad theoretical constraints but otherwise must be adjusted, by trial and error, to give the best overall agreement with experiment.
