Cyclic stress-strain response has been studied in copper, variously treated Al-15 Ag alloy, and several variants of 7075 aluminum alloy with different amounts of minor constitutents, with the aim of investigating the role of microstructure in such response. Emphasis has been placed on mechanisms of rapid hardening and saturation, on the distribution of slip as controlled by the microstructure and on the relation between the cyclic deformation mechanisms and the fatigue damage mechanisms.
