Abstract:

As part of a system effectiveness study of the Airborne Tactical Data System ATDS the cost of maintenance in terms of parts, labor, and other associated factors has been analyzed for operational squadrons deployed in the Western Pacific. Analyses have been performed at four levels system, electronic and nonelectronic subsystem, equipment, and subassembly. The analyses revealed that cost levels are significantly higher than comparable values for a training squadron at North Island NAS, San Diego, California. Possible reasons for the differences are discussed. A detailed tabulation of the results of the analysis is included, covering cost per flight-hour, cost per maintenance action, man-hours per flight-hour, man-hours per maintenance action, and mean time between maintenance actions. 9 ua Cost categories considered are organizational maintenance labor, intermediate maintenance labor, and part replacement and overhaul.
