Abstract:
This report describes the effectiveness of various noise mitigation techniques as applied to blast noise, the Armys most significant noise source. The main thrust of the analysis was aimed at operational changes, including relocation, rescheduling, and firing during more optimal weather conditions. Three hypothetical case studies were investigated, and each technique was quantitatively evaluated. It was found that the three types of operational changes studied did prove more or less effective. However, these mitigation techniques are site-specific, and the decision to use them should be based on how they will affect the base mission, their cost-effectiveness, their noise reduction abilities in terms of decibels, and their benefits to the individual site.
