Digital computer programs have been developed to evaluate the effects of horizontal ground wire systems on the low angle radiation from vertically polarized HF antennas. An extensive method of moments program WF-LLL2A has been modified for this purpose. An alternative approximate method has also been studied and the results compared. Results indicate the feasibility of these types of calculations and that a low angle field enhancement of 20 to 25 by design of the ground wire system may be possible at the higher frequencies in the HF band, but that larger ground screens do not necessarily give greater enhancements.
