The potential use of high energy ion beams as a source of thermonuclear pellet ignition energy has increased the importance of understanding high current beam transport. Computer simulation using particle codes promises to be a useful tool in gaining that understanding. A series of simulations is presented in which the numerical parameters are systematically varied to illustrate the purely numerical effects on these simulations in a physically interesting parameter range. It is found that the significant effects observed are essentially independent of the numerical parameters. It therefore appears that the numerical techniques are indeed capable of reliably predicting the behavior of actual beam transport systems. Author
