Abstract:

The Packet Speech Measurement Facility PSMF is an operational recording, playback, and measurement facility designed to provide NSC participants with a tool for packetized speech research. ARPANET access to the PSMF is available using the Network Voice Protocol COHEN and an appropriate extension LOW. This section is intended to serve as a description of PSMF functions and a guide to their use. The three critical functions of the PSMF are recording, playback and measurement. The recording function enables a user to designate a PSMF file which will receive a record of negotiation proceedings, voice packets, and special control packets. The playback function provides the means for retrieving part of all of the recorded file. The measurement functions provide tools for analysis of recorded files, and typically create files which can be accessed via the playback function. A discussion of conventions and an outline of the PSMF extensions are followed by sections which detail each of the PSMF functions. Each function description is accompanied by the protocol necessary to access it, and an example of its use. Author
