A microprocessor controlled motor controller feasibility study has been completed by the Charles Stark Draper Laboratory for the U. S. Navy. In addition to verification of the concept of a microprocessor as the controlling element of a motor control system, design goals included the hardware realization of a control algorithm which maximizes system performance by minimizing harmonic, transient and steady state current, and also maximizes system reliability by limiting the stresses and overloads to each component.
